Texas Toys and Games

Do you remember spool tractors, skate wheel scooters, flutter mills, stilts, kites Mande of newspapers and flour paste, slingshots and flip guns. How about games such as red rover, leap frog, crack the whip, spin the bottle, Indian wrestling, leg wrestling, capture the flag, one eyed cat (a baseball game) and ‘knocks down’ in marbles. Long before television and toy stores, kids in the country—and in cities and towns—made their own games and often built their own toys. This Texas Folklore Society Publication is devoted to all the games, toys, jump rope rhymes, play party games an other pastimes that kids had to invent for themselves. Texas Toys and Games is one of the finest volumes ever produced by the Texas Folklore Society. It is a monumental addition to Texas folklore.
