The initial inspiration for the illustration was western frontier paintings. The artist goal was to incorporate Mexican culture into those settings as Vaqueros have always been a part of Mexican and American rural life. The colorful backdrops and skeletons further emphasize the Mexican culture as they pay homage to Dia de los Muertos. The fusion brings together classical paintings and what represents Manola and Maria as artists. Both graduated from UT Austin. They are part of an all female collaborative space known as Lavaca Studios in San Antonio TX. Size: 12”x 18”
